Horo sighed in content, staring out the window and watching the snowflakes drift to the ground. It was good to be home, to see his parents, he hadn't been back in a really long time. But, despite that, he couldn't help but look forward to leaving again, he couldn't wait to get back to who he was missing so badly.
"Horo? Can we talk with you a minute?"
That was his mother. Kumi Usui, the little unofficial couples therapist of their village, she never felt uncomfortable with any topic of conversation . . . any topic. Pirika moved out of their house a few months ago so his parents were stuck by themselves, he felt bad to leave them so lonely that he came out for a visit . . . though he really couldn't stop thinking about someone else . . .
"Yeah, Mum." He answered, coming away from the window and sitting down in the living room. "What is it?"
His father, Higen, sat next to his mother. Both looked at him from across the room, serious looks across their faces. Not bad serious, just a kind of seriousness that showed the topic mattered.
"Now, Horokeu, as parents, we have learned pretty well how to read our children." Higen nodded slowly as he spoke. "And we've noticed a bit of a change in you."
"Sweetie, we know you've been having sex." His mother cut in and Horo just blinked at her. "And we just want to know that you're using proper protection," Horo suddenly cracked a grin that went unnoticed. "Because you know, being seventeen, you really ought to be using birth control and-"
She was suddenly interrupted by loud, hysterical laughter erupting from her son's mouth. Horo slapped his knee repeatedly and shook his head as he laughed, he held up one hand to indicate he wanted them to stop for a second until he gathered himself. Eventually he managed to bring it down to a quiet giggle and spoke in between such little eruptions.
"Mum, Dad, you don't have to worry about it," He giggled, still trying to control his breathing. "Believe me!"
"Oh," Higen blinked. "So you're using protection then?"
"No!" Horo laughed again. "You guys, I'm gay!"
They were silent for a minute, just staring at him as he started to overcome his amusement. "Okay." Kumi said, smiling at him. "That's alright, why didn't you tell us sooner?"
Higen nodded. "Are you gonna bring the boy down here or what? We get to meet him, don't we?"
Horo grinned at them, he didn't know why he hadn't told them yet, he knew they'd be totally fine with it anyway. "I don't know when you'll get to meet him . . . " He said slowly, thinking hard.
"Why not this week?" His mother piped up, looking overly excited that one of her children would finally bring someone special for them to meet.
"Huh?"
"That could work," Higen tuned in, smiling also. "Just go back to Japan, get him, and come back. We can pay for the tickets, it doesn't matter."
"No, no, don't worry about it." Horo said. "You don't need to pay for anything."
"Oh, but, honey! We want to!" Kumi protested. "It's a joy for a parent to help their children!"
"No, I mean nobody has to pay." He grinned a little, looking at them with excitement at this new idea. " . . . He's got a jet."

Ren was laid out lazily on the couch, flipping through the channels on the TV and bored out of his mind. How the hell had he managed to live alone before? It was just so damn boring!
There was no one to fight with or yell at. No one to simply tackle when they came in the door. No one to come to him whining because they screwed up cooking again. No one to make fun of.
But worse . . . No one to hold him at night.
He growled in annoyance and turned off the TV before throwing the remote control at it. He hated to admit it, but he was lonely. How had he ever come to be so dependant on that stupid Ainu in the first place anyway? Horo had only been gone two days and he was already going insane! It was just so fucking quiet!
The phone started to ring and he suddenly felt a lot happier. Someone to talk to, finally!
"Hello?"
"Hi! It's me!" An all-too-familiar voice said happily on the other end. "Miss me yet?"
"No." He lied.
"Yeah, yeah, sure. You're probably so lonely you've been hugging your pillow to death!"
Ren glared at the pillow he'd left on the couch and growled. "Shut up."
Horo chuckled. "I know you too well, man."
Ren made a sound of annoyance. "Whatever. When are you coming home?"
"Aaaawwwwwwww! You do miss me!"
"Horo!"
"Okay, okay!"
"Oh, is that him?" Another voice said in the background.
"Yeah, it's him, Mum."
"He misses you? How cute!"
Ren's eyes widened. "You told your parents already?"
"Of course I did! And they wanna meet you!"
"You mean . . . they don't mind?"
"No, they're totally cool with it." Horo said happily. "Now, listen. They wanna meet you, so here's what we'll do. I'm gonna come home-"
"You are? When?"
"Dude, let me finish."
Ren looked down. "Sorry."
"It's okay, I know you're just dying to tackle me and pin me down and-"
"Horo! Your mother is in the room!"
Horo chuckled. "Oh yeah, right, oops. Anyway, I'm coming home and then you and me are both going to Hokkaido and we're gonna stay with my parents for a week or two! Isn't it, great?"
" . . . You're not serious."
"Yeah, I am! Now, I'll be home tomorrow evening okay? And don't worry, I'll stay the night before we leave so you're not freaking out the whole trip."
Ren dropped his face in his hand, feeling his cheeks burn into a blush. "Horo . . . "
"Huh? Right. Mother. Sorry." He apologized, finding himself slipping back into the old Usui way of life, following the code of never being shy about anything. "Anyway, then we'll just take one of your little jets and fly on down! So, pack your stuff up now, 'cause I know you won't do it when I get there."
"Horo! Stop saying stuff like that when there are other people around! God!"
"Well, sorry!" Horo sounded like he was talking to a whining girl who just broke a nail. "Okay, I gotta go. Pack your stuff, I'll be there tomorrow, and uh, yeah. Love ya, Tiggit."
Horo's mother's voice was heard again. " . . . Tiggit?"
Ren was about to protest but the phone clicked and he knew Horo had hung up. He called him Tiggit, Tiggit! In front of his mother! And he knew that Horo would tell her how he got such a nickname! He felt his face turning deep red, damn his stupid stuttering when he was nervous.
It was just when he and Horo had only been together for a little while, and they'd hardly done more than a few passionate kisses. Well, this particular time Horo decided to jump up a notch and had Ren pinned against the wall, smothering his neck in kisses and running his hands along his body.
Ren, being as shy as he was, got pretty nervous and spooked a little at the new development of intimacy, and he couldn't talk straight. He had meant to say 'stop it' but it came out more like 'tiggit', and the horrible nickname was born.
"I love you too, you stupid bastard." Ren mumbled to himself before putting the phone down. "God damn stutter." And he marched off to his room, knowing full well that Horo was right . . . he had better pack now.
